UK Book Signing Tour 2000 Newcastle

Forbidden Planet
Newcastle
Friday, 28th January - 5pm

We arrived pretty early in Newcastle so we had lots of time to kill.
The queue started to build at 4pm. But thank god, this time we could wait inside the Forbidden Planet and we didn’t need to stand outside in the cold again. We had to wait at the side of the shop, between the wall and a shelf.

Again... at 5pm there was still no sign from Bruce. But the Manager from the Forbidden Planet told us that they have called and they just have entered Newcastle. 15 minutes later Bruce entered the Forbidden Planet.
We were standing in the queue behind the shelf. Before Bruce started the Signing he looked around the shop and came to stand on the other side of this shelf seeming to be interested in what’s on the other side of the shelf. Suddenly he looked up and asked us how we do this... to be there every time on time and so. I told him maybe it's his driver... but Bruce said no, he's a
good driver! ;-) Then I told him that we still haven’t given up!!!

Bruce went back to the signing table to begin. While we were standing in the queue I asked Brian how they are finding their way around.. Maps or Satellite Navigation System (which is getting more and more common in Germany)? He told me that they are still using maps. Bruce wanted it that way.

When it was my time again there was just one Book lying on the table. So I asked Bruce if that's the last one and he said "yes, the last one, no more, finito". And I said "Cool, I get the last book! Yeah!" And in this moment I had a kind of proud feeling... but not for long because Bruce put his hand on the book saying "No, you don't get this book!" I said: "Hey, come on, I'm waiting here a long time just for this book... and now I don't get it???" And he said: "Yeah, you don’t get this book... You’ll be in Edinburgh tomorrow and they have lots of Books." hmm.. Am I in Edinburgh tomorrow?? How did he know that? ;-)
I said "Okay, okay.. then I take such a picture" and pointed to one of the four pics which were lying on the table. He asked what name he should write on this picture. And I couldn't tell him so I told him to write whatever he want. Then I asked Bruce how much german he knows? Then he said something I really didn’t understand. It was kind of a mix of broken german and broken english. I just understood the last word: Bullshit. Then I said: "Oh yeah, write Bullshit on the pic" but he didn't write that! So in the end I had another Pic personalized.
Then I said: "So I guess now I also have to pay for that pic?!". Bruce said "of course". And I said:
"Hey, Come on, I'm a poor student....". Both looked at me with a grin in their faces, saying something: "yeah, of course... poor student....we believe everything you say"  And I can tell that I couldn't convince them that evening to believe me!!!
Then we left the Forbidden Planet and got a shock.... because there were still about 150 people
standing on the street and waiting to get a signed book.... but there was no book anymore available. I thought I really have to ask Brian about the signing tomorrow.
Then we started our little trip to Glasgow. Just 310km /195miles to go. We needed about
3 - 3 1/2 hours to get to Glasgow.
